GIFTS IN KIND

United Way is people helping people... a network of volunteers united to help solve community problems and meet community needs.  It serves a population of more than 700,000 in 13 communities.

Gifts In Kind International Affiliate:
United Way of Essex and West Hudson

Founded over 80 years ago, it was the first United Way in the state to move to initiative funding of agency collaborations. In the 2005/2006 funding year, UWEWH awarded over $2 million in five focus areas of focus:

• Success by 6: Children ages 0 to 6
• Bridges to Success: Youth ages 7 to 19
• Family Power: Strengthening Families
• Bridge to Recovery: Substance Abuse
• HIV/AIDS HIV/AIDS Prevention and Awareness

Gifts In Kind Newark

The Gifts In Kind program secures items ranging from personal care products, books, clothing, seasonal items and even computers, which are distributed to nonprofit organizations at a reduced price. Agencies that participate in the Gifts in Kind Program have access to a wide variety of products to support their programs, initiatives and events. The extremely reduced price of these items assists our agencies with sustaining their programs by reducing budget expenditures. In the past four years, more than $10 million in Gifts In Kind^® items have been distributed in the greater Essex and West Hudson region.
